I didn't know it was so far north in Europe. In the New World Central America is the front line of the fight against both the Medfly and the screwworm Cochliomyia hominivorax. They are widespread in South America and have been eradicated in North America. Even a single fly, other than a sterile male released for biocontrol. will bring a large response from American authorities.
