Apparently a new script acted up. I replaced it with the old one and it should be okay now.

I figured out the epistoma - the area between the mouth edge and the antenna, so no rush for a glossary item.

maybe nycteribiid has no halteres as well. They don?t need them for nothing... if some species has no wings.

Done. Can you do something about the epistoma question of conopid's below? Members can submit Glossary Terms...

There are several more apterous flies without halters, for example in Sciaridae and Cecidomyiidae.

Any chance of a definition and or drawing for epistoma (particularly with reference to Dolichopodidae) in the Glossary?

as you can see the wings are absent AND this must be AN UNIQUE CASE (or at least extremely rare)... there are no HALTERES!
and it is a fly...

Nigel, here you can see the sketch of Aenigmatias. The image will be available for some days though. It is a phorid fly. Very strange fly.

there are no photos in the web.
I just saw it once in a book - a scheme, not really a photo. But Aenigmatias (correct spelling) is very unusual for a fly. I will try to get a photo of the sketch. :
