Hi, Some weeks ago lots of tiny Ephydrids were busy in a well-wetted flower pot on my balcony. When the soil dried out, they vanished. The shape of the white spot closest to the wing tip make me think of Scatella tenuicosta. Do you agree? - Location is southwestern Germany, 20 km west of Stuttgart. Yes, S.tenuicosta (now known as Scatella lacustris).

Thanks for confirmation! However, the synonymy puzzles me... According to your paper of 2018 (I was not able to find a PDF version online), you see S. stagnalis as a separate species, but GBIF (https://www.gbif....es/9615322), who cites your paper in detail, states that S. lacustris is a synonym of S. stagnalis. What is right? |

In the GBIF link you gave, the left-hand panel does give lacustris as a synonym of stagnalis. This is incorrect. S.stagnalis is a good species, and separate from lacustris (=tenuicosta). I'll PM you about a pdf of the paper.
