Hello, this small fly with iridescent eyes appears to be of the genus Hydrellia. Is it possible to identify the species? The golden face and gray abdomen lead me to believe it is H. griseola. I have additional photos if needed.![]() ANDRE LABETAA : France : Canohès : 66680 : 21/03/2026 Altitude : 67 m - Taille : Autour de 4 mm Réf. : 371539 ![]() ANDRE LABETAA : France : Canohès : 66680 : 21/03/2026 Altitude : 67 m - Taille : Autour de 4 mm Réf. : 371541 ![]() ANDRE LABETAA : France : Canohès : 66680 : 21/03/2026 Altitude : 67 m - Taille : Autour de 4 mm Réf. : 371542 ![]() ANDRE LABETAA : France : Canohès : 66680 : 21/03/2026 Altitude : 67 m - Taille : 4 mm environ Réf. : 371552 Edited by DedeLab on 22-03-2026 10:06 André LABETAA |

Andre - Hydrellia are best identified by examining the male genitalia, but I feel that your specimen is almost certainly griseola. Check whether the mid femur has a row of postero-ventral bristles. If they are absent, then I'm 99% sure that this is griseola. Tony ---------- Tony Irwin |

I checked all my photos. Unfortunately, none of them confirm the absence (nor the presence) of PV setae on femur 2.
