pond fly = Dichaeta caudata

Found this fly on a fastfood packet in a pond. I didn't get very nice photos because I had to lean over the water and hold the camera away from my body. Otherwise, I fall into the pond ruining my expensive equipment Shock

Anyway, I have no idea where to begin with this one. A family will be nice.

I would say Dichaeta caudata (Ephydridae)

I'm not amazed that you recognize it so easily. You are an impressive individual. I have no idea how you learned to id families so quickly but you are definitely a top notch dipterist. I've mentioned it before. Tony Irwin and John Carr are an amazing tag team.

Thank You. And caudata is the only Dichaeta supposed to be in Deutschland.
off to discover more about Ephydridae ...
