Today I found at least ten of these little black flies sunning on a rock at Leerdam, Netherlands. Length a few mm. Could they be Lonchaeidae perhaps? Thanks in advance! Jan Zwaaneveld attached the following image: [133.95Kb] http://slamenietd...web-log.nl |

Not Lonchaeidae, which is acalyptrate. This is clearly a calyptrate fly - you can see the thoracic suture.

Thanks, Susan and Kahis. They come in all shapes and forms, those Anthomyiidae http://slamenietd...web-log.nl |
