Hello!

At the moment there are many flies and other insects on the Aconitum plants in our garden (Ostwestfalen/Germany). To be more precise: they all seem to like the secretions of Aphids on the plants. Very numerous are Sepsids and Lonchaeids, but also these beautiful metallic 4 mm flies. I found some pictures of Physiphora alcae (Ulidiidae) which resemble it. Is this correct or are there similar species? Is that black tube on pic 4 an ovipositor? Thanks a lot!

Hi Juergen.
I think so, this nice and almost unmistakable fly is Physiphora alcaea.
