Can anyone identify this fly? I believe it belongs to Ulidiidae but I might be mistaken. Unfortunately, I managed to take only these two low-quality pictures before it flew away. Based on wing pattern plus body morphology, I think more likely: Coelocephala arcuata Bezzi, 1914. Neoepidesma tends to be more ‘ant-like’ in general form. If Coelocephala arcuata, then the vertex should be sunken between the compound eyes in frontal view.

Compare with inaturalist observations from Gambia (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/248409094) and Benin (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/261137583).
While others can't climb, using infinite pains, I, gravity turning to jest, Ascend, with all ease, perpendicular planes, Rough or smooth, just as pleases me best. |
