I read that there are about 300 species in Sweden belonging to this family. I guess this diminishes the chance of a species or genus ID? From midwest Sweden in may 2006.

Edit: Changed subject (Empididae sp?)

I'm not sure if this is the same species as the above, but it is from the same place.

Both are species of the genus Empis, subgenus Xanthempis. Based on the genitalia and the colour of the tarsi I am confident that the top one is E. aemula. The bottom one, a female, has the characteristic thoracic pattern of E. trigramma. So you see, not too bad after all. Wink

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
