Hi all,

a few days ago I made a few images of a hoverfly while it was in the air. I assumed it would be E. tenax, but after inspecting the images, I'm not so sure any more. Since it refused to land somewhere I have only some in-flight images. Is it possible to determine of narrow down the species from these images?

Germany, Garden in western Munich, 13.04.2025, app. 10 mm KL (just guessing here).

Greetings, Uli

Hi Uli, it's E. pertinax (entirely pale fore tarsi, face without broad black median stripe...)

Hi Eric,

thank you very much for the identification. At least, my suspicions were justified Smile.

Greetings, Uli

Hello Uli,

the hovering in about 2-3 m height is typical for the males of this species. Yesterday one was constantly hovering above my head at a hedge - impossible to take a photo...
Best regards,
Jürgen
