- front leg ?
- are the veins really so pronounced or is this a trick of light ?

It is either venosus or reticulatus and from what I an see from the front tibia .... likely venosus.

Which is pretty rare.

I'd vote for B. reticulatus:

Hind tibiae and tarsi of B. venosus are not thickened. See:

Yeap, that is pretty different. Well spotted.
Extremely early for reticulatus (but would be as well for venosus).

Two weeks ago, dozens of Melontha melontha in the garden.
Usuallually, it's in May !Shock

In America the scarab beetles of spring bring parasitic Tachinidae attracted to light.
