Hello,
I have no idea what this fly from April 16, 2020 from Leipzig (Saxony) could be called. Is that a Cheilosia species (Cheilosia sp., Cheilosia cf. vernalis…)? Thanks for your help,
Maik

Hello Maik,

there is no Cheilosia with triangleshaped orange markings on the abdomen. This is a female Melanostoma scalare.
Best regards,
Jürgen

The dark antennae and the limited dusting in the frons and face do not accord well with scalare. M. mellinum is more probable.
