Hello all, I found a nice small (8/9 mm) Tachinid just today on my balcony in Wageningen. I managed to take a few pictures, and I also collected the animal (if necessary for ID) Can somebody tell me more about it? Greetings, Gerard Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

Just to make a wild guess without checking my keys for once: somewhere near Dexia or Cylindromyia? |

Andre s suggestion is understandable, but it actually is Mintho rufiventris (Tachininae: Minthoini). Distinguishing features: thorax with 2 broad black vitttae, abdomen distinctly laterally compressed, reddish as sides. Wing: topcel closed, bend of vein M with a long appendix. Mintho rufiventris is not uncommon, mostly encountered on windows and walls ! Theo Zeegers |
