On bracket fungi (Ganoderma) collected on September 08. Size 10 to 15 mm. They crawl leaving slimy traces. I'm not too sure it's Diptera larvae, though...

Dima, I think this is most likely to be a sciophiline mycetophilid. (Using a comination of the type of host fungus, the mucus threads and the anatomy of the larva.) It would be good to get a more informed opinion, and perhaps a genus name, so that the image can be posted in the gallery. Edited by Tony Irwin on 24-09-2007 22:37 Tony ---------- Tony Irwin |

Thanks a lot Tony - they're still there, and maybe I underestimated the size (up to 20 mm). |

Dima, did you get chance to rear this one through? From the deeply incised on the posterior part of the head capsule led me to think it could be some limoniid crane fly.

The last time I checked the contents they (the larvae) were still there Chen, but now fungi are covered with a lot of mold despite it's rather dry and there's enough air, so I'm not sure if I get some results. |
