Dear Forum! These beautiful flies key out straight at S. pollinosus in Engels key, but according to FE it is not known from Grece or the Dodekaneses islands. However, I found an old paper that list this sp. from Samos and Ikaria, so it should not be a surprise in Rhodes: http://www.zobodat.at/pdf/SBAWW_143_0159-0168.pdf In any case, I would feel much better if someone were able to confirm this ID (or correct it, of course, if necessary). Thanks for any help in advance! Greetings, Henrik piros attached the following image: [195.67Kb] Edited by piros on 15-08-2016 18:37 |

I am pretty sure you are right. Probably a minor thing, in Engel it is said that only the DC are black, the rest of the bristles on the mesonotum should be yellow, but they are black in your specimen. Still, i think you are right i am confronted all of the time with such inconsistencies ; ( : ))))

I believe the fly (from Samos)shown in this thread is also S. pollinosus: http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=49400 It is even more typical, since most of the bristles on the mesonotum are yellow. |
