Hello,

Asilidae from our french forum ; South-west of France, july 5th 2016, ~15 mm
I suppose Machimus group but that red pilosity asks me question !

Sorry : ( This one is a mystery to me, so she must be female : ) Regarding the ovipositor it would be a Machimus sp. but i have not yet seen a species with an entirely red beard and i can't key it out. A picture of a male would be welcome....and an option is also an entirely different genus.... Engelepogon... but a good view of the pleurae is needed.

Thanks Reinoud I'll try to get some better view of pleurae but anyway there is no picture of male.

If you have collected the creature, please have look at the top of the mesopleuron/anepisternum, check for bristles.

I changed my opinion, disregard my remarks on Engelepogon, i just had a closer look at the genus and this one remains closer to Machimus.
