Can you photograph the hind spiracles? In North America the most common large maggots in carrion are Sarcophagidae and Calliphoridae. They are distinguished by this key couplet: Posterior spiracles in a deep spiracular cavity (Fig. 84); spiracular openings inclined more or less vertically; ecdysial scar usually not visible; peritreme incompletely encircling spiracular plate... Sarcophagidae Posterior spiracles exposed at apex of terminal abdominal segment (Fig. 82); spiracular openings obliquely inclined; ecdysial scar present; peritreme completely encircling spiracular plate... Dear John, normally, Calliphoridae and Sarcophagidae are the usual suspects - so far so good. But I had a lot of other strange fliy larvae inside (like Fannia spec. and others).
