I got an unusual female of Dioctria in dune system in East Germany 11. July 2015 together with D. rufipes and D. hyalipennis. Wings are slightly brownish, much darker as in D. rufipes. Arista is as long as pedicel, much longer as in D. rufipes. Finally tomentum on pleura and scutum seems to be more intensive and antennal hump is higher as in females of D. rufipes I have. Is this still an variation of D. rufipes?

I am far from being an Asilidae expert, but darkened wings and pronounced antennal hump are said to be typical for D. flavipennis (e.g. http://www.dipter...d_id=61953). The key http://www.geller...octria.htm allows for blackish coxae. And in http://www.robber...iofla.html it is stated that there are 2 different species mixed under the name D. flavipennis - it might be the second one with the antennal hump not reaching the upper eye margin...
