Robber flies were abundant in the Paklenica NP in Zadarska, Croatia. Especially this species. At least to me they look like being one and the same species, although some have white and some have black bristles at the sides and the rear of the thorax. Could it be Machimus rusticus? Thanks in advance for your advice. Regards, David DJHiker attached the following image: [196.38Kb] |

As by now, the Asilidae specialists should have returned from their well-earned holidays, I would like to take another chance with my id-request. Although I suspect that the lack of responses shows that determination of the exact species is probably tricky, can anyone at least confirm/indicate the genus? Thanks in advance. Regards, David |
