Lapposyrphus lapponicus s.l. (habitus of a Eupeodes but with a strong loop at vein r4+5). (The true lapponicus probably occurs only in GB and Scandinavia whereas its still unnamed sibling ["species A" sensu Stubbs & Falk] is more widespread. This split has not been recognized by continental syrphidologists but is probably valid.) Regards, Dieter |

Oh !  If I would have to reply, I would have said a freshly emerged Scaeva, because of the very wide ocular angle, the swollen frons with brush of black hair above, and because the eyes seems hairy on the first picture. But I would never want ot crontradict Dieter !

My answer was too fast  It is a Scaeva selenitica and the characters Stephane mentioned are correct. Regards, Dieter |
