Hi,

wow, that's great! This is Brachyopa maculipennis. It is easy to identify by the two black spots on the wing. At least in Germany this is a very rare species with only two recent collecting sites. Here it occurs in alluvial forests at slime fluxes of Populus alba.

Yes! Populus alba seems to be the key word. I mostly see these on the barks of an old P. alba. I think they stay in the cavity of this tree, this fly was trying to enter the whole when I made this photo.
