Hi, i tentatively ID'd this one as Leucophaga maculata - but am by no means an expert, and was wondering if anybody could confirm or offer a different opinion? It was taken a couple of years ago in the New Forest, October, ~8-9 mm in length. Much appreciated, Richard richard_thomas100 attached the following image: [8.36Kb] |

Hello Richard, I think this is a muscid fly. It would be more practical if you could submit larger pictures (eg 500 pixels wide). Best regards. Stephane. |

this is not Leucophenga. never! Luecophenga maculata has a very distinctive occiput, and frontalia totally white. But with this size is not easy to see characters... perhaps muscid as Stephane Lebrun told? Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 08-05-2007 20:40 |

Hi, hopefully this is a bit bigger, though the quality diminishes with size.
