This is from 18th of June 2008, Extremadura, Spain (not in the mountains). It's quite a big robberfly, compared to the honey bee.
I only have pictures from the side, and only one on flickr:

A Dasypogon sp. Dasypogon diadema or one of the various species very close related Wink Maybe one of the experts can say something more specific...
