France, Beaufort (col du pré) 15/8/2013 Altitud: 1734 m - Taille : 95 mm This is a black Eupeodes (lapposyrphus) lapponicus... very nice, but how this specimen become black ? Yes, they can be very dark, almost wthout yellow spots. Mainly caused by the temperatures during pupal stage.....
