Hello Isn't it a Limonidae species, perhaps Eloeophila maculata (Meigen, 1804) with black spot on the fly. Find two larva under the bark of a beech in 02/2007, breeding in my house, born the 15/03/2007. lweit attached the following image: [116.75Kb] |

please see if the 5th segment of the palp is more longer than the other segments. If so, it is Tipulidae almost sure. If not, it could be a Limoniidae. Other feature, Limoniidae has NO nasus in rostrum.... tipulidae can have or not. If you find nasus in rostrum, Tipulidae! If not, I think just with above feature... nasus is a prolongment of the rostrum with a shape like the anterior and upper part of a shark... the antenna seems to have less than 13 segments. If so, Tipulidae! Limoniidae has between 14-16 segments, usually, I think. I hope you have the specimen.... or photos of the head with more detail. Fix me if I'm getting wrong. |
