Sorry to bother you guys again, but looks like this is Diptera week here near Rome . Here's yet another new one for me. Perhaps someone could help me at least get near identifying it! Sarah |

Again, a Tachinid fly of the subfamily Phasiinae in the genus Gymnosoma. Very conspicuous, but then again very difficult to identify. This is a female and not of the most common species (ie. in Central europe). My best guess is female Gymnosoma dolycoridis, given the broad longitudinal stripe of whitish dust on the scutellum and lack of similar dust on thorax. Theo Zeegers |
