I saw this fly today at Leerdam, Netherlands. I think it is a muscid, and at first I thought it was something in the Phaonia subventa-region. But comparing it with other photos I find the legs quite long en more extensively orange than in P. subventa, and the scutellum is almost completely dark, except for a small orange tip. The photos are awful, unfortunately, but I can add that the antennae seemed completely black and there seemed to be no or hardly any black markings on the bright orange body. I would be very grateful if someone could help me out. Thanks in advance! Jan Zwaaneveld attached the following image: [179.35Kb] http://slamenietd...web-log.nl |

That's what my first thought was, Robert. It would be a new species for me, so I hope for confirmation! Thanks for your opinion on this one. http://slamenietd...web-log.nl |

In this thread you can read more about such a Phaonia fly, this issue remains unsolved http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=1779&pid=7264#post_7264 Edited by Robert Heemskerk on 03-02-2007 23:02 |

Hi Robert, it looks very similar, yes. The only difference seems to be that mine has less orange on the scutellum. Anyway, reading the thread you mention, I don't think we will get this to species level with those photos of mine. I'll book it as an uncertain Phaonia subventa. Thanks for your help! http://slamenietd...web-log.nl |
