As indicated in my previous posting I have recently returned from northern Cyprus where this little stunner was among the flies I managed to photograph. At a first glance I thought it was going to be a Hymenopteran but with only one pair of wings and halteres what a brilliant mimic it is. The specimen which I have retained is about 8mm long. It was found on 30 March near Avtepe. Any suggestions on identification would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Alan Alan Outen attached the following image: [96.26Kb] Edited by Alan Outen on 03-04-2012 20:55 |

Many thanks to you both. Hopefully an Asilid specialist might be able to add to this. Alan |

Maybe more an Asilid fanatic than an expert, but i think this could well be P. mixtus
