I assume this one has only just emerged. Taken Yesterday near a compost heap, South coast UK. Body length about 5mm. I tried to get the fly to turn round for a better angle by putting my finger near it- instead of that it walked straight up my finger onto my hand . Any ideas on ID? Brian V. Well-marked thoracic suture, so Calyptratae; too small for any compost-breeding calliphorid or sarcophagid, so I think Muscidae, Anthomyiidae or Fanniidae. (Narrows it down a bit! )
