Is this a beetle larva?

It reminds me rather of a glow-worm (Lampyris noctiluca) and was from a chalky area with plenty of snails. Martin Down in the south of England, end of August 2005. As to size, from memory it was larger than a glow-worm.

Yes, it is the larva of Silpha tristis (Col., Silphidae).
I would be glad, if you could send me one or two files (600x400) for our beetle gallery.

Thanks for that. can you just do a right click of the mouse and download this image as its the size you want? Perhaps I will send you a couple of images separately, with a note on the bottom saying copyright Mike Dodd and the species name if I can work out how to do this.

If you send more pictures for the beetle gallery or for id, please don?t write anything in the pictures. It will be ugly and removing is no problem.
