Hi, I found these very big (> 3 cm) and beautiful Asilids in Canary Islands, Fuerteventura (Costa Calma) in the end of August, beginning of September 2007, but never in springtime. I think it should be the endemic Promachus consanguineus. Can somebody confirm or correct my assumption? Thank you. Marion Marion Friedrich attached the following image: [134.25Kb] |

Weinberg & Baez (1992) cited only Promachus consanguineus from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Therefore the species isn't endemic. In addition the species should be distributed in Central Asia as well (Lehr, 1988). There are 5 endemic Promachus species on the other islands and number 6 from Hierro isn't described yet. Best regards PS: A description of the courtship behaviour is avaiable on http://www.geller...romach.htm Edited by Dysmachus on 03-12-2010 21:27 |

Thanks for correction and the link to the courtship description. I stored something wrong in my brain and did not check again before writing. Best regards, Marion |
