Would this predatory looking creature be an Empipidae? Photographed yesterday in mixed woodland by the edge of a small stream near Rome, Italy. About 8/10 mm long.

Thanks, Sarah.

Hello, Sarah!

I think I have photographed the same species yesterday (Ostwestfalen, Germany). At first I also thought it was an Empid, but looking closer at the massive thorax and thick hind femora I now think it belongs to genus Hybos (cf. femoratus?) from the Hybotidae.

It does look VERY similar! If it wasn't so banal, I'd say... what a small world! Sarah
