hi flyforum,

In some little pools on the side of the road I found these little flies.
I though of Dolichopodidae, but in this area (polder) there are no trees or branches..

because of heavy wind, the fly is a bit sticked to the ground.

What kind of fly is this?

Tachytrechus sp. female
Dear amateurs, please seek males! Male secondary sexual characters are very important to identify doli species (in addition to wing and face details)

Tachytrechus are typical open-sand species, so it is no surprise you found it away from trees. Other genera typically found on open sand include Thinophilus and Hydrophorus.
