In addition to Sundew's thread of may 9, 2010 on the beautifull adult E. ocellaris (http://www.dipter...d_id=29874), I can also show you the larva of this species. This specific larva was found under the bark of a submerged treetrunk in a forestpool (with Fagus) along the Ilmenau in Bad Bevensen, Germany on 14.iii.2009. At first sight it resembles a Tipula spec. larva in size but is has typical white (unpigmented) anal lobes, but also ventral pseudopods. The latter are most likely used for locomotion under the bark.

What a brilliant addition to my adult! The larva is really nice but unicoloured - no beautiful squiggles here... You should add the photos to the gallery! |
