Two nice Snipe Flies, both from early June, West Virginia USA, in or near damp woods. The first one has lots of short gray hairs. It reminds me of the widespread Chrysopilus species found around here, which have gold hairs on the mesothorax. The second one has clear wings with dark markings. Rhagio, maybe? As always, ID help is really appreciated! Stephen attached the following image: [104.15Kb] --Stephen Stephen Cresswell www.americaninsects.net |

Both males. The first is a Chrysopilus, the second a Rhagio. Can't help with species as yet!
