Dear pwalter
In Simullidae larvae it is necessary to study the pupal gills in the pupae or in the larvae in the pre-pupal stage. Looking at the posterior hook circle it is definitely not Simulium (Wilhelmia).I also think there are no ventral papillae at the last abdominal segment and it seems as there is no dark spot at the ventral side of the head (gular-spot). I can't see the ventral side very good to have a closer look at the postgenal cleft. The head pattern resembles Simulium ornatum group. But to be sure you'll need the prepupae for a positive identification. therefore Simulium spec.

It is sad news. I read him a month ago, as he replied to me about a wrong identification. He was brilliant, as always.
