Hi, I have got two different informations from two different sources:

It means the larvae or maggots of the hover fly Myathropa florea. The one source says, that the larvae live on greenflies or aphids. The other source says, that this larvae swim in rotting damp and live on rotting elements of plant tissue.

What of these both meanings is correct? Or are both correct, that the second is a larval pre-stage of the first meaning?

Thanx, Brigitte

p.s.: I hope, you could understand my question, my English is not the best...

Hi Brigitte
As far as I know Myathropa larvae are always found in rot holes in trees or similar situations. They are not equipped to be aphid predators, and any that tried it would soon die of starvation! Wink

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
