June 10, 2006.
Size around 4mm.
Very characteristic look with wings folded roof-like, snuggled to the bark like a tortoise.

Hello everyone,
Yesterday I've found another specimen. This time it was collected by sweeping (same time/location as in thread http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=2&thread_id=2043). Size 3mm. I would like to present some more images. First, a dorsal view.

And the last one.
Well, I'm not so sure it's the same species: eyes are not so red, and face is rather reddish and black than pure black as it appears to me in the first fly...

Hi!

Two different species as you already noticed. The second one is Stegana (Stegana) furta, the only West Palearctic species of this subgenus. It is easily identified by the head being short & high and the eye being vertically elongated. Black palpi is also typical.

The first fly belongs to subgenus Steganina with 8 closely related species in Europe.

Thanks a lot Kahis,
It's so nice to hear I wasn't wrong about 2 different species!
