Hello

I've found that fly in a wood April 8th 2006 (Is?re, france). I suppose it's a Tachinid. Good guess?

Thanks
Christophe

Could it be Bactromyia aurulenta?

A Tachinid al right.

Looks like Phryno vetula to me.
Rather common spring species in deciduous forests

Thank you to all of you.
I previously read the dialogue between Black, Chris Raper and Theo about Bactromyia... The specimen of Chris has black bands on its abdomen, not mine. So I prefer Phryno vetula guess. Is its host known?
best regards
Christophe

Hi Christophe, I am glad you like it Smile I started it for myself because I was too lazy to look in all the literature every time I caught an interesting fly, so I put the literature in one place! Wink When I started the UK recording scheme with Matt Smith it became our site and it has grown from there.

My current project is to find pictures of all the species both in the wild and as specimens so that, once someone has identified something using a key, they can double-check using the photo. Cool

Happy hunting!
