Hi Robert! If the first fly was found in early spring it is most probably an anthomyiid called Egle ciliata. It is very common everywhere in Finland. All Egle species fly in the spring and feed on Salix flowers. E. ciliata is by far the largest species in the genus and (as the scientific name suggests) it has unusually long & dense hairs on thorax. Kahis |
