Hello everyone! The closest thing I've found is the genus Culicoides, but most of the ones I see seem to have the pattern of this specimen, but in negative (black spots instead of light ones). Is this the correct genus, please? Can we go to the species or a group of species? The size indicated, obtained by comparative measurement with another insect in the area, seems too large to me. I think this specimen was more like 1 to 2 mm. Forcipomyia. We have one or two similarly marked species in North America. More often there is only one pale spot on each wing, or none. |

Culicoides can have wings that are entirely clear, clear or white with dark spots, dark with white spots and entirely dark. I can't quite see the characters to distinguish this genus - it does look to be very hairy, which might suggest Forcipomyia, but I struggle with photos of this family.
