Dear all, This was found in the Camargue, southern France, on May 9th, 2025, in freshwater wetland with lots of rush Juncus maritimus, bulrush Eleocharis palustris and growing reeds Phragmites australis. Nice picture! Genus Seoda is a safe guess, but several candidate species. Seoda similis is quite close, but there are more species.

I have compared the picture with my pictures of the specimens used for the description of the species in 1922. The specimens in the museum has lost contrast unfortunately. I am certain now of this from the Camargue being Seoda similis! May I use your picture? Please send the picture (or when you have more pictures) to weia[@]xmsnet[.]nl How far from the sea you've found them? The larvae tolerate some salinity. Many thanks weia for your answers and IDs! I will send you my pictures. I found it 4km from the sea (somewhere here 43.446984, 4.629758), there are lots of brackish wetlands around, and the precise area where I found it has disturbed hydrology as it receives freshwater or water with very low salinity (i.e. <3PSU) from a drainage channel, hence vegetation is a mix of freshwater and halophhilous species. |
