Hello everyone,

I photographed this fly, which was about 10 mm in size, yesterday in a meadow in southwest Germany. Is it Cylindromyia brassicaria?

Greetings Siggi

Hello Siggi, I think it's a male Cylindromyia pilipes (see the long hairs on hind tibia and femur).
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Hello Eric,

thank you very much for your identification. That would be a great find for me. You are certainly right about the long hairs on the tibiae. Is that enough for a reliable identification? As far as I can see, there are only a few reports of this species in Germany. Perhaps Theo will respond to this question.... Smile

I hope, he does!
I've used these two threads to confirm my suspicion:

Hi Eric,

that's great, thank you. If I understood correctly, your identification must be correct. The identifying features are clearly visible. Learned something new again TumbsUp

Greetings Siggi
