Having found a well domunented thread https://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=64178&rowstart=20 about a confirmed Borborillus uncinatus, I wondered how to exclude B. vitripennis? What is the difference between the two? I found a candidate B. uncinatus, but wish to positively exclude B. vitripennis.

In vitripennis the 3rd section of M is distinctly longer than the 4th section. In uncinatus they are about equal in length. If you have a male the genitalia of uncinatus are very distinct with prominent hook like surstyli.

Thanks, Walther. Mine is unfortunatly a female. The third section of M is indeed longer (1,3x) than the fourth section in my fly, but in the fly at https://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=64178&rowstart=20 they are indeed almost equal length, and therefore B uncinatus.
