Hello, These two I consider male and female of Helophilus trivittatus. Is there any chance for a confusion? The facial stripe is yellow, and H. pendulus and H. hybridus do not have the white stripes (at least not touching ones) on the abdomen tip. However, I found no description of H. affinis except that the hind margins of tergite 3 and 4 are not yellow. (Location is Island of Usedom in August.) Thanks for confirmation, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [143.07Kb] |

With yellow facial stripe, ther is no confusion possible (H. affinis with black stripe). H. trivittatus male and female indeed, a large distinctive species.
