Hi, this tiny fly took a rest on a blade of grass. My guess would be that it might belong to the Chloropidae family, maybe of the genus Meromyza. Is the family/genus correct and/or is a narrower determination possible? Grass in a Garden in Germany, Southern Bavaria, Munich (-West), 28.07.2023, app. 4-5 mm Greetings, Uli ukursawe attached the following image: [235.31Kb] |

Hello Ulrich, normally Meromyza cannot be determined from a photo. Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

Hi Jürgen, thank you for that assessment. Would you agree that this is indeed a Meromyza sp., or is it not possible to determine the genus form a picture? Greetings, Uli |

Hi Jürgen! Well, no. At least for me its ambiguous. It could mean either: 1) Its not possible to determine the genus Meromyza from pictures, i.e. Chloropidae is as close as you can get. or 2) Its not possible to determine the species from pictures, i.e. Meromyza sp. is as close as you can get. No offense, but this how I see it. Greetings, Uli |
