Three Asilidae today (17. July 2025) within a couple of minutes - no. three landing on my camera, so no chance to take a picture, but I am sure it was Tolmerus sp., as I often see them in our garden. The other two seem to be new to me, both seen on the same Hydrangia within 2min. So, here is the second one - our garden in Rheinbach near Bonn/Germany, 210m above sea level, huge forest close by. Fly about 12-15mm. Please help - thank you so much, Jörg Joerg Schneider attached the following image: ![]() [262.78Kb] Edited by Joerg Schneider on 20-07-2025 19:05 |

She was briefly gone, but came back immediately :-)

Hi Jörg, I think these are males Choerades marginata. Same as the other thread https://diptera.i..._id=115907 Greetings, EricK |

Thank you Eric! I am not really happy - they look like C. marginata, but if I compare them with the photos/description in Danny Wolffs Die Raubfliegen Deutschlands, the orange hair on the abdominal segments but the last two seems strange. But I guess you are sure, otherwise you would not answer like this! |

Hi Jörg, I understand your concerns. But we can clearly see yellow adpressed hairs of the face, which are crucial after Wolff, Gebel, Geller-Grimm (2018): Die Raubfliegen Deutschlands

Yes.... anyway, it is a new species for my collection, so I can easily accept your verdict ;-) |
