Hello,
In the south of France on May 22, 2023.
Length of the body 13 mm. Abdomen very flattened.
I think of a male Lomatia but can we go to the species?
Thank you for your advice

For the legs and the pilosity of the body
If needed, I also have a bad picture of the underside of the abdomen.

Hello Liliane, it looks like L. polyzona, but I'm not sure if it appears in France...

from: Three new records of the genus Lomatia Meigen, 1822
(Diptera: Bombyliidae) from Iran, http://biozoojournals.3x.ro/bihbiol/index.html

Thank you very much Eric,
For the moment Lomatia polyzona is not listed in France (but in Italy for the closest country). I see that the yellow lines should be continuous for L. polyzona but I don't know if it is an absolute criteria?
In the south of France there is also Lomatia belzebul.

And L. belzebul seems to match better to your specimen:
Tergite 1 has a yellow apex in polyzona and is completely black in belzebul as in your fly.

Thank you very much Eric,
I had not seen that the completely black tergite 1 can be a criterion.
