Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, Pinneberg-Waldenau near Hamburg, between a housing estate and an edge of the mixed forest Klövensteen, nearby a little pond for fishing, catched at the metallic railing of a little bridge (beneath birchtrees, pinetrees and an oaks), length of the fly: 17 mm; 12th of September 2019; photos: kuv. Hello, I have read the threat https://diptera.i..._id=109057, where it's showed the difference between the larva of Dichrostigma flavipes and Phaostigma notata. So I think, my snakefly is a larva of Dichrostigma flavipes - is this ok? Please help to get the ID. Kuv kuv attached the following image: [130.91Kb] Edited by kuv on 08-03-2023 11:14 |

Hi kuv, very interesting! I'm nearly sure it's a Puncha ratzburgi! Based on Bestimmungsschlüssel der Larven der Raphidiopteren Mitteleuropas (Aspöck, Aspöck, Rausch) "Meso- und Metathorax mit deutlich in Erscheinung tretender, durchlaufender heller Medianfascie." Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Hi Eric, I'm very surprised that there is a key "only" for larvas of European Raphidiidae. Reading the reference and comparing the pictures there I also think Puncha ratzeburgi fits best - but in the reference it is also said that there is no picture of a larva of R. maculicollis, which is also living in Northwestern part of Germany. So a "cf." is nessessary. Thank you very much, Eric , that's a very new "field" for me. Greetings Kuv |
