 Newly emerged Sarcophagid fly ?

Just guessing this fly has not coloured up properly yet- about 12 to 15mm body length. Taken today South Coast UK - it did not seem to want to fly which is another reason for assuming it's newly emerged. Thanks for any info brian V.  |

Come on guys, don't let the swollen head fool you, all freshly emerged calyptratae have that. The arista is plumose, the ocellars are proclinate, there is no way this can be a Gonia. I liked the first call better: ?Sarcophagidae. However, it has a lot of ACR bristles for Sarcophaga sl. Might even turn out to be Calliphora. Theo |
